Life often takes us on unexpected journeys, and my path led me from a small village to the bustling city of Mumbai. It’s a tale of uncertainty, perseverance, and dreams coming to life. In this blog, I’ll narrate my journey, from my initial days in Mumbai from 2005 to where I stand now, as a successful entrepreneur.
My journey to Mumbai wasn’t filled with grandeur; instead, it was a leap of faith. I arrived at Dadar TT Circle, unsure of my destination, but determined to make it work. The city presented a world of opportunities, and I was ready to embrace them.
Initially I slept near the Sewree Ropeway on big pillars, which were like a temporary shelter. I knew I needed to find a way to support myself. That is when I promised myself that I won’t drink water until I have a secured job and my own source of income to sustain myself.
I got my first job at a restaurant. I was working as a waiter. But, I didn’t want to be just a waiter who would serve food. I wanted to interact with customers. There was a punishment for the waiters. If you commit a mistake, you’ll be shifted to room service. He took this punishment as an opportunity and was shifted to room service so as to interact with the people over there..
This was the start of my life in Mumbai.
Living in Mumbai was tough financially. There was a time when we could have paid for my education, but we had to use that money for my sister’s wedding, and it left us with very little. Our family struggled with debts and house mortgages, making it challenging to achieve financial stability. My family was always there for me. They believed in my dreams and made the difficult decision to send me to work in Mumbai, even though it was hard. My father’s dream was to see me become financially independent.
Later, with the news of the fire in the Kamla Mill, I observed that people struggled with permissions and authorities from the government. I knew I had to make this work by making it a smoother process for the people.
Mumbai is a city of dreams and contrasts. It’s a place where diverse people coexist, but it can be unforgiving to newcomers. People in Mumbai have a different outlook, and at times, it can be challenging to find acceptance.
With determination and a strong work ethic, I navigated the challenges of the city. My journey was far from easy, but it was filled with opportunities. I worked with a government officer and embarked on a path that led to my success.
Over time, I ventured into entrepreneurship. I started working within a small space in a parking lot in Juhu. Continued to provide assistance in licensing and auditing to startups, businesses. After renting an office and working there for 5 years, I now own three offices of my own and have successfully completed 373 projects, with 180 more in progress. My clients include renowned names like Godrej, Dominos, Subway, Piramal, and many others.
I wasn’t always confident, but I kept working at it. My business didn’t require ads; it thrived on happy clients telling others. Trust and credibility grew through word of mouth. Money was never the sole motive, creating a name for myself through my work was. And I know, I have succeeded. From a small salary to where I am now, it shows that hard work pays off.
In the end, life is full of challenges, but my journey from a village to Mumbai proves that determination and hard work can lead to success. Mumbai has its difficulties, but it’s also bursting with opportunities. I hope my story inspires you to chase your dreams because with dedication, success is within reach.
